Guiding Light is coming to an end

July 25, 2009 on 1:37 am | In Guiding Light | No Comments

From Daytime Confidential

Telenext Media’s Vice-President Brian T. Cahill has released a statement confirming Guiding Light’’s post-CBS
options have dried up.

When GUIDING LIGHT was cancelled by CBS in April, we promised our fans we would do everything we could to find a new home for the show. In the ensuing months, we have engaged in serious discussions with many networks, leaving no stone unturned in our effort to place the show elsewhere. Unfortunately, despite the urgent and dedicated efforts of many people, we have not been able to secure an outlet to carry the show moving forward.

We are extremely disappointed with this outcome, but we are confident we have exhausted every possible option. While it’s hard to imagine GUIDING LIGHT coming to an end, we’re so very proud of the amazing feat the show has accomplished with an unprecedented 72 years on radio and television. The show has made an indelible mark on broadcast history that likely will never be repeated. We’d like to thank all the members of the cast and crew who have brought Springfield to life for the past seven decades.

The good news is we have some powerful stories planned during the show’s remaining months that will celebrate the show’s rich history. We continue to appreciate our fans around the world and are grateful for their unwavering support of the show. We hope our viewers will continue to tune in to be entertained and touched by the drama, the love and the family that is GUIDING LIGHT.

Sad news indeed. I know we were all hoping that Guiding Light could find a home elsewhere but that does not look like it will be happening. The last episode is set to air in September.

Petition reaches 11k signatures & Good news from Daytime Confidential

April 16, 2009 on 5:29 pm | In Guiding Light | No Comments

I am happy to announce that the petition has reached over 11,000 signatures. Please keep calling and writing to keep Guiding Light on the air.

Also, Daytime Confidential is reporting that Guiding Light is not canceling their Peapack lease.

Another good sign that Procter and Gamble Productions and TeleNext plan to make good on their promise to explore all options in finding a new home for Guiding Light came to, well, light today.

According to a Central New Jersey website, the mayor is telling his townsfolk GL isn’t leaving Peapack yet.

Borough Mayor William Horton said he met with representatives of Guiding Light team Tuesday morning, and was told the show won’t be canceling its 2009 lease with the borough to film at municipal locations all over town and to maintain a home base at a borough facility.

“My impression was that they’re very hopeful another station will pick up the show,” Horton said Tuesday afternoon.”

This news is very hopeful. There have been rumors that Lifetime Television is interested in Guiding Light. Write to them and let them know what you think!

Welcome to Save the Guiding Light!

April 1, 2009 on 9:33 pm | In Guiding Light | 11 Comments

Earlier today it was announced through many sources that our beloved Guiding Light would cease to be come September 18th. We here at STGL do not want to see this happen. Our main goal (or hope) is to keep this wonderful soap opera on the air. Some of us been there since the beginning, others just a few years or even months…. We all have one thing in common though, Our love for Guiding Light. Together maybe, just maybe we can appeal to CBS and P&G to keep it on the air.
